‘Mielitz’ Clock

Kroeger Clock, ca. 1835 (MC0134)

This clock belonged to a Friesen family that lived in Rosenort, Manitoba, Canada. Its current owners purchased it at an auction around 1997. 

  • Description Thirty-hour wall clock with pendulum and weight-driven movement, made by Abraham Kroeger (1791–1872) in Rosenthal, Russian Empire (now Ukraine), ca. 1835. Arched dial is light with a single dark border around the perimeter. Arch has three decals: a sweeping gold scroll with red flowers and greenery, a bald eagle carrying a shield with the American flag on it, and two roses surrounded by greenery. Spandrels are decals of rosebuds and leaves. Chapter ring is white with black Roman numerals; has two outer rings, one marking the minutes and one marking the quarter hour. Inside the chapter ring are two more decals: a rosebud above the hands and a cluster of flowers below the hands. Two hands; rope drive; two weights.
